The
prefects’ body of Mfantsipim School is made
up of school and house prefect. School prefects
will be responsible for the area of designation
throughout the school whiles house prefects will
be responsible for their respective dormitories.
Below are the typical responsibilities but not
an exhaustive list of the various designations
in the school.

The head boy is the head of the prefect body and
the mouthpiece of students to the administration
and staff. He is the president of the school Council.
The head boy serves as the primary communication
instrument between staff and students. The position
of the head boy is not one that is voted for,
but it is based on nomination from a short list
of possible candidates by staff members and then
a vetting will be held before the decision is
made. The head boy will normally exhibit the qualities
of a strong academician, humility, ability to
exerciser power with tact and represent the student
body adequately.
The
Assistant Head Prefects
(Domestic and Academic)
The head prefects will normally be assisted to
do his work with a close relationship with the
2 assistants. One assistant will be purposely
responsible for issues in the dormitory area (domestic)
while the other will be responsible for issue
in the classroom area (Academic).
The Protocol Prefect
The protocol prefect handles the responsibility
of co-ordinating all internal and external activities
of clubs and societies in the school. He will
be responsible for ensuring that the right permissions
and adequate preparation for any activities organised
by any club are done in a proper and acceptable
way. The protocol prefect is also the secretary
to the School Council. The protocol prefect post
is the only school prefects post which is elected
by voting by the school council. However, winning
the vote does not necessarily mean the final decision
has been taken, staff members will still have
to take the final decision on who become the next
protocol prefects.
The following designations will normally be covered
by two prefects unless the council in consultation
believe that there is a need to increase the numbers
in order to be able to cope with the increasing
number of students.
Grounds
Prefect
The ground prefects are responsible for general
hygiene and cleanliness on campus. They are responsible
for making arrangements with senior boys on duty
to ensure that all “picking” and “sweeping”
arrangements to be carried out by students are
properly arranged. The grounds prefects are also
to ensure that Saturday morning inspections are
carried out regularly and marks awarded appropriately
for every house. Marks awarded during inspections
are compiled and collated in a league table to
compete for the cleanest dormitory in the course
of every term.
House
Prefects
House prefects are generally responsible for maintaining
good boys behaviour, ensuring strict adherence
to school rules, maintaining good sanitation and
the good running of their designated dormitories.
